it is usually the cover art, sometimes the title, on a book that attracts me to it, (if I don't know anything about it)...Continue

It's been awhile since I posted anything. Several reasons:
I have been covering all the bases for creating e-books. [When will they decide if the word is spelled ebook, or e-book, or eBook. What's your choice?]
There is a lot to consider in the formatting of electronic books, and also in the different platforms they are delivered on. The electronic eye reads differently from the human eye. Careful attention is needed to reproduce the product (product since there is…

So, you want to submit your manuscript…
Reasons to hire a professional
Quality. This requires careful editing, copyediting, layout and design.
Add value. By creating the best result possible.
Text formatting. For all platforms (including print-books and e-books), kerning, leading, scene changes, chapter brakes and titles, etc. cannot be done correctly and uniformly without the use of style…

Books, they not only have to read well, but their design needs to reflect the author's pride in offering it for distribution.
Would you send your child out in tattered, mismatched clothes? Would you post an unattractive picture of yourself on Facebook? Do you have pride in your written work?
If you want to be perceived as the great expert on your subject, the wonderful author you are, then think about the following:
Who are you allowing to produce your book? Do they have…

Amazon has just released, and I have downlaoded, the Beta version of the application to transfer InDesign (the premier book formatting software) into a file that the Kindle can read. Mind you, it is Beta, but I have high hopes.
Now we can have control over the look and feel of your book. Yippee. As more and more people download EPub and Kindle books, they will become more discriminating, as do buyers of traditional books.
New technology is also offering us the…

Beware the easy claim.
So, you got your manuscript in a Word document. Let's just up load it to Amazon. Right. ( and who is going to find it here if you don't promote it.)
Text reflows in an Ebook. That does not mean it does not have to correctly edited and typeset.
You still need Page Design. How about the cover? Your book still needs to "look good" to be refereed…

Sales tax
Many states are reviewing the impact of on-line sales. Local merchants must pay sales tax and they are upset by Amazon, Ebay and the rest who escape this tax.
This is a serious discussion. As it progresses through the courts, authors and vendors must take notice. It entails another set of 'rules' that vendors must adhere to. Murmaid Publishing and Sirena Press is very aware of this.
Therefore, looking forward to who we accept to offer our titles, we will…

It is so confusing: Amazon, PayPal, Google.
Seems the more you get involved with them, the harder to find questions. Phone numbers anyone?
Before I left for the recent conference of Photoshop World, I got a release that Amazon has an app for making Kindle editions from my InDesign files. That would mean that we, the author and the designer, would have more control of what the ebook would look like.
Can I find it now? If you have ever tried to find phone numbers for these…

A sight that I just ran accross.
Have not had a chance to check it out, but read the info.
I am always suspicious of anything that's free.
But it may be a 'poor man's' copyright and worth looking into.

Just spent three days of 12-hour sessions at Photoshop World in Orlando. I realized this was my 7th time to gain insight into the power of Adobe. Always changing always getting better.
I gained a better insight into processing documents, mainly Photoshop skills which is the tool for designing book covers and photo enhancement. HDR Wow!
However, my research, which I do daily, into Tech is advancing at record speed. EBooks can now be created with InDesign, giving the author a…
