it is usually the cover art, sometimes the title, on a book that attracts me to it, (if I don't know anything about it)...Continue

This site was intended to help aspiring writers.
From tBooks to eBooks, to marketing and all else.
It was intended to share info.
It has come to my attention that a 'member' who was not 'accepted' has been contacting other members. She has been taken out, do not reply to 'princess' or to any other who does not bear the name:
the Murmaid

If you want to be taken seriously as a writer, take your writing seriously every step of the way from first draft to finished book. You are a writer, and prospective author. Decide to spend your time on writing, or the years it takes to learn the art of production. Choose your editor, publisher, wisely. Someone who takes the time to proudly put their name on your book. For insights into some of the details of producing a good readable book see:…

There are so many on-line sites that offer to print your 'tree' books (versus eBooks, another subject).
They ask you to only submit a Word document. Where is the editing? None, They do not care what they print. Where is the formatting? None. They may only shrink your text to fit the page.
Yes, it is an awesome feeling to show your friends your printed book. But do you not care how it looks—to them or a book store? Where are the thumb margins. What is the ratio of the page…

A known problem with indie books is huge variance in quality of writing, editing and production. Big retailers don’t have time to sort through the pile, but small bookstores are well-positioned to evaluate, promote and review local writers.
They can sort out the junk by looking at the cover art and the typesetting in a few seconds. For those books that pass aesthetic muster, it doesn’t take long to read a chapter or two to see if the…

It's been awhile since I posted anything. Several reasons:
I have been covering all the bases for creating e-books. [When will they decide if the word is spelled ebook, or e-book, or eBook. What's your choice?]
There is a lot to consider in the formatting of electronic books, and also in the different platforms they are delivered on. The electronic eye reads differently from the human eye. Careful attention is needed to reproduce the product (product since there is…

So, you want to submit your manuscript…
Reasons to hire a professional
Quality. This requires careful editing, copyediting, layout and design.
Add value. By creating the best result possible.
Text formatting. For all platforms (including print-books and e-books), kerning, leading, scene changes, chapter brakes and titles, etc. cannot be done correctly and uniformly without the use of style…

Books, they not only have to read well, but their design needs to reflect the author's pride in offering it for distribution.
Would you send your child out in tattered, mismatched clothes? Would you post an unattractive picture of yourself on Facebook? Do you have pride in your written work?
If you want to be perceived as the great expert on your subject, the wonderful author you are, then think about the following:
Who are you allowing to produce your book? Do they have…

Amazon has just released, and I have downlaoded, the Beta version of the application to transfer InDesign (the premier book formatting software) into a file that the Kindle can read. Mind you, it is Beta, but I have high hopes.
Now we can have control over the look and feel of your book. Yippee. As more and more people download EPub and Kindle books, they will become more discriminating, as do buyers of traditional books.
New technology is also offering us the…
